An dispute sparked between a man and his neighbors in Texas about the guy's use of a semi-automatic rifle for target practice close by resulted to the death of five of the neighbors, according to the police.
According to reports from the BBC, all of the casualties were from Honduras, and among them was a youngster of eight years old.
The incident took place on Friday evening in the quaint community of Cleveland, which is located in San Jacinto County, to the north of Houston.
According to statements made by the local sheriff Greg Capers to the local station KTRK, the bodies of two adults were discovered lying on top of two children who had survived the attack.
"In my opinion, they were actually trying to take care of the babies and keep them alive," the witness said, before adding that all of the victims had been shot "from the neck up, almost execution style, basically in the head."
It is thought that the suspect is a Mexican national named Francisco Oropez, who is 38 years old.
According to several sources, the culprit has not yet been located; it is believed that he is armed, and he has been accused with five charges of murder.
During the search for the culprit, who is said to be hiding in a nearby woodland, the police are making use of both dogs and a drone.
A report of "harassment" was made to the sheriff's office on Friday night about 23:30 local time, which corresponds to Saturday morning at 04:30 GMT.
The investigation has led authorities to believe that the victims begged Oropez, who they believe was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, to stop shooting while they were attempting to put a baby to sleep.

According to Sheriff Capers, the guy allegedly responded by saying, "I'll shoot out in my front yard, do what I want to in my own residence."
After everyone had gone back to their respective homes, the gunman "topped off his magazine, and walked down his driveway into the people's house and started shooting," according to the sheriff.
At that time, there were a total of ten people present at the property. The parents were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and the child, who was eight years old, passed away in the hospital.
The event took place a few days after a shooting took place at a party for teens in western Texas, in which nine people were injured.
Accidents involving firearms are the leading cause of death for children and adolescents in the United States, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
