Police arrests student in Akwa Ibom, over alleged internet fraud.

 

On Friday, April 28, 2023, the operatives of the Uyo Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission "EFCC" detained nineteen undergraduate students at Akwa Ibom State University "Mkpat-Enin." The students were arrested on suspicion of committing internet-related offenses.

Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge are two hotels that are located in Ikot Akpadem, which is in the Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. People claim that the suspects stated that they were detained in their individual rooms at either of these hotels.

Because of surveillance on their possibly fraudulent involvement in romance scams, fraudulent crypto currency transactions, and impersonation, the law enforcement officials who were intended to arrest them did not do so several months ago.

It was also reported that according to the police force, the items recovered from them include a number of laptop computers and mobile phones such as iPhones, Samsungs, and other brands.

Authorities from the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) have announced that the suspects will be charged in court as soon as investigations are finished being conducted.
