Buhari, family would get visa ban after May 29 Handover

For undermining democracy in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party has demanded that the international community apply penalties, such as a visa restriction, on President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.).

The statement was made in response to a quote attributed to the President, in which he said that the presidential election was lost by the opposition parties due to their arrogance and lack of planning.

The PDP called the remark risky and warned it threatened the nation's corporate survival, thus history would not be kind to him.

Debo Ologunagba, the party's National Publicity Secretary, made the following statement at a press conference on Friday at the party's national secretariat: "Having clearly undermined democracy in Nigeria, the PDP calls on the international community to accordingly impose sanctions including visa ban and travel restrictions on Buhari and his family immediately he vacates office on May 29, 2023.

This request for sanctions is in line with President Buhari's request to the European Union for "heavy sanctions" on those involved in "unconstitutional change of governments" and "influence on the process and outcomes of elections" on February 17, 2022 in Brussels, Belgium.

"It is instructive to state that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which is considering petitions arising from the election, is a part of the electoral process."The President, Major General Buhari (ret.), has plainly interfered in the electoral process with his subjudice comment, apparently in an effort to affect the outcome and undermine the constitutionally mandated procedures for changing governments.

The party claims that the presidential election on February 25 was widely regarded as the worst in American and international history.

The party added that the presidential election was plagued by manipulation of processes and flagrant disregard for the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act, 2022, and the regulations and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

It claimed that the election was tainted because real numbers were changed after being announced and that the "vexatious declaration of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner" capped off the scandal.

It further stated that the President's failure to enforce legislation meant to guarantee a free, fair, credible, and transparent election was intolerable.
