In honor of this year's Workers' Day commemoration, the federal government has designated Monday, May 1 as a federal holiday. Minister of the Interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government, according to a statement released on Friday in Abuja by Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the ministry's permanent secretary.
Aregbesola thanked workers all around Nigeria on this year's anniversary, and he praised them for their hard work, diligence, and sacrifice, saying that these qualities are partly responsible for Nigeria's glory and the respect it currently demands among nations.
The work we do is essential to the development of our country, and he emphasized the importance of doing it with respect.
According to him, "the end of work is productivity," so he urged his employees to adopt a culture of efficiency. Productivity is the driving force behind the development of wealth and the provision of essential products and services. Therefore, it is the way to success on both a national and personal level.
The Minister called on all workers to improve their standards in step with the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is leading the charge to improve the means of governance so that all Nigerians can reap the greatest possible benefits.
He told Nigerians that, even as President Muhammadu Buhari's term winds down, the government will not slack up on its commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors to the country.
"The Minister applauds the efforts of the security services for the accomplishments achieved in the fight against criminals around the country, and he has urged them not to rest on their laurels but to go all out to dissuade the criminals whenever they rear their ugly heads again.
That's why, he says, "security is everybody's responsibility, and he calls on all Nigerians to do their part in ensuring the safety of their country by maintaining a heightened state of vigilance and promptly reporting any and all suspicious behaviour to the appropriate law enforcement authorities He also recommends the N-Alert app for both Android and iOS.," the release continued.
